Not working?

The dates were added once and never update

They were imported (a one-off copy) instead of subscribed. Delete them: on iPhone, find the copied events or the calendar you put them in; in Google Calendar, remove the calendar you imported into. Then follow the steps above for your phone, which keep the dates up to date.

Google Calendar hasn’t updated yet

Google checks subscribed calendars on its own timetable, so a new or changed date can take a day or more to show. We ask every calendar to check every 12 hours; iPhone and Outlook usually follow that. Nothing is wrong with your phone.

Android said “Calendar was successfully added”, but no festivals show

Google’s Calendar app on Android phones can say that without adding the calendar. Add it once from a computer, as the Android steps above show; they can email you the link for your computer. Then turn on its Sync in the app (next answer).

I added it on a computer, but it isn’t in the Google Calendar app on my phone

The app keeps a calendar added on the web out of sight until you turn on its Sync. In the Google Calendar app:

  1. Tap the three lines at the top left, scroll to the bottom and tap Settings.
  2. Under your Gmail address, tap “Hindu festivals · London” (tap Show more if it isn’t listed). At the top, turn Sync on.

The festivals can take a few hours to show the first time.

I use Samsung’s own Calendar app. Where are the festivals?

First add the calendar with the Android steps, including turning on its Sync in the Google Calendar app. Then open Samsung Calendar, tap the three lines and tick “Hindu festivals · London”.

On a computer, Google Calendar opened but didn’t ask to add it

Check you are signed in to the Google account your phone uses, then click the button again. Or, in Google Calendar on the web, next to Other calendars click +, then From URL, paste the feed address above and click Add calendar.

A time looks an hour out

Festivals are all-day events, so the day can’t shift. Times inside each event (such as the Lakshmi Puja time) are written with GMT or BST, so they are right whichever side of a clock change you read them.
