Getting the dates right
We calculate every date for your city ourselves, from the Sun and Moon, and test each update against published festival dates before it goes live.
Traditions: Dates are calculated for your city. Traditions differ; for rituals, follow your temple or priest.
When traditions differ: Karwa Chauth 2026
We showed Thursday 29 October; some UK temples kept Wednesday 28 October.
Karwa Chauth follows Chaturthi at moonrise. In the UK, Chaturthi ran from Wed 28 Oct 19:37 GMT to Thu 29 Oct 16:41 GMT, so it was not running at moonrise on either evening (in Leicester the Moon rose at 17:31 GMT on Wednesday, before it began, and at 18:27 GMT on Thursday, after it ended). The rule then falls back to the tithi at sunrise, which gives Thursday, the same day as India. Those temples keep the evening when Chaturthi begins. Both readings are in use.
