Why some days are a day earlier in the UK
UK sunrise comes about five and a half hours after India’s. A lunar day () that starts in that gap is already running at a UK sunrise but not at India’s, so the UK keeps it a day earlier. That is why Narak Chaturdashi, Bestu Varas and Bhai Dooj fall on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday here, and on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday in India.

Diwali 2027 in the UK: Thursday 28 October 2027

Krishna Amavasya runs from Thu 28 Oct 16:18 BST to Fri 29 Oct 14:36 BST (Thu 28 Oct 20:48 IST to Fri 29 Oct 19:06 IST).
